Default The things you did as a kid...

Another thread got me thinking of this and I don't want to derail it so...

What weird stuff did y do as a kid to amuse yourself in the abscense of playstations and the like.

I would...

Lift up the fire covers on the pavements and name all of the spiders that lived under them.

Spit on curbs and play noughts and crosses with spit and a stone with my best friend.

Burst into a rendition of Karma Chameleon every time I saw a catarpillar...never knew why I did that!

Collect red worms and pupae from the stream and feed them to the fish in the tank at home.

Pour salt in snail shells and watch them bubble....only did that when very young and then felt really guilty.

Made different stingy things sting me to see how it felt...until I thought my sister was overreacting to a bee sting, so made one sting me only to be told by mum that it would then die. I called myself a murderer and put myself in solitary confinement.

So, come on....let's hear yours...

Does whacking my sister in the face with an ansaphone and breaking her nose count?

Or blu-tak'ing a Bonio to my scalectrix car and getting to dog to chase it round in circles?

Or feeding the same dog popping candy?

Used to help a gamekkeeper out at weekends.

He used to net ducks on the local lake, take them back to an old disused house and sort the 'wheat from the chaff' so to speak.

Selected what he perceived to be the best, clipped their wings and returned them to the lake.

The not so fortunate ones were beheaded, you'd be surprised how long a decapitated duck can fly! The room looked like something from a horror movie.

As a little kid, I thought how unfair it was that some people only got 1 bottle of milk, others 2,3 etc.

So I would make sure they all got equal.

Back then I lived in a large house with an enormous drive. My father used to store cars along the drive. It was my job as an 8 year old to start them all up and run each the length of the drive every weekend (To stop brakes, clutches seizing. Keep battery topped up etc) Big old Humbers, Zephers etc. But my favourite being the Mk 10 Jag with its cocktail cabinet in the back.

Also being responsible for shooting strays.

Not being big enough to push the clutch/brake on the old Fordson Major we used. My dad cut the back out of an Anglia. Much fun flying over fields with bales in the back. But if ever it got stuck wait for dad to get home to pull us out. Much easier when we got a little fergy 35.

i had the Queens Part (Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh) right on my door step so what didn't i get up to

fireworks time we used to use drain pipes with rockets as rocket launchers at passing cyclists, having rival gang wars and steeling each other bonfire wood. winter was sledging time and clearing snow from pathways for spare cash. summer was grass slide, tree rope swings (Tarzan's), camping down the borders and fishing. all of this up to about 12yo then introduced to two wheeled vehicles and alcomohal. the idiots used to leave the cages open to the tanker fillers at the local brewery yes we were drunk a looooot.

i done a lot more but wish to keep my coolness so shall remain shut about the rest but lets just say being skint and bored you soon find ways of making some spare cash.

I think our imaginations could make it all far worse than reality
