FI light and no fuel pump whine
Usually when first turned on. If I turn off the ignition and turn it on again, it seems fine, no more warning lights, bike starts and runs fine. Sometimes needs doing this twice. Once running, it has never cut out or anything like that.
When I say FI light, the red light flashes and FI appears in the LCD display. Think that flashes too. Anyone got any ideas or handy tips? As its intermittent, its a bit hard for me to track down.

I don't know anything....
but, problems with your engine cut off switch? loose wires? ageing equipment? I'm not helpful. |

Re: FI light and no fuel pump whine
Error C42 i bet.
Crappy ignition switch. Try putting the front end in steering lock postion and wiggle the key all the way through the switch positions. Try pump it in and out as well. I bet that resolves it. Others have found it to the the cut off switch, but i narrowed mine down to just the ignition switch. I'll be using some contact/switch cleaner spray in my barrel to try and permanently resolve the fault. |

Re: FI light and no fuel pump whine
The FI displayed on the screen as far as i am aware means that there is something wrong with the fuel injection system, and with the whine you hear being the fuel pump priming itself it is on the same sort of system, see if u can get the bike into dealership mode then it should display an error code on the screen if it finds something wrong with itself, im not sure how you would go about fixing an fuel injection problem by yourself........

Re: FI light and no fuel pump whine
thanks for advice guys. I'll try the key wiggling - it probably is something as simple as that, as the bike runs fine otherwise. Otherwise, dealership mode it is. Will report back.

Re: FI light and no fuel pump whine
brilliant. Cheers very much. The bike has barely missed a beat in 5 years and I thought it might have been making up for it with something horribly complicated and/or serious.
Of course that removes my excuse to ride Miss Ophic's new 750cc cruiser

Re: FI light and no fuel pump whine
I've got something similar, in my case instead of the usual whine I get a squeak from the pump then FI.
It's doing it all the time since I cleaned it Sunday, so I have to keep retrying for several mins before I get the full zeeeeeeeeeeee instead of zikfz. If you know what I mean!It never cuts out whilst riding though, but it is annoying when it takes you ten or twenty times to get the magic noise instead of a mouse farting. So should I do the following: One, try wiggling and turning the key in the barrel Two, flick the kill switch a couple of times, Three, when I have time, strip and clean the ignition barrel an kill switch. Or do you think I should be looking more at the fuel pump end of things? All advice from the MIGHTY ORG appreciated thangyewverrmush. Ps I thought it was my immobiliser, which it might be I suppose, though the zikfz noise leads me to think otherwise. Any thoughts? Abletronics something or other...
