Default Pooch Owners. Cheap alternative to Seraquin?

All,

Vet has advised we think about putting the hound on Seraquin.

10 year old GSD cross and the old boys joints aren't what they used to be.

Cheapest online I can find is about £15 for 60 days (on Amazon of all places, is there anything they don't sell?!)

Wondered if there was a cheaper alternative?

Cheers

I've never heard of that but it looks good. I give my old Goldie Winalot glucosamine treats which cost about £14 for 21 days..... he is also on Metacam because he is proper crippled in his hind quarters without it. The glucosamine is to ease the rest of his creaky old joints.

Watching this thread with interest and I might try this supplement for him.

He had Metacam prescribed after SWMBO nearly killed him with too many long walks

Only a weeks worth but it seems to have done the trick, it was while at the vets because of this we had the conversation about seraquin.

Yeah Metacam really reduces inflammation, amazing how quickly it works too. If your dog is OK with glucosamine then stick with that, as full time Metacam can cause ulcers in your dog. Save the Metacam for when he is older or is chronically bad with it. Red is 13 and properly arthritic in his back end, so the Metacam is needed daily.

Like the look of the Seraquin though, as a supplement, it may help to reduce the metacam dose for the old boy.

Go to a horse supply place, you can buy big bottles of gluco stuff for horses, used to be loads cheaper and in liquid form.
