Bike revving out?
Hi all,
I have a k6 sv650s with about 6k miles on it. Just recently i have noticed that when I fully open the throttle and it gets into the 'powerband' at about 7k, then engine revs out till about 12k, then goes back and starts accelerating properly. I dont think its the tyre losing traction as I cant feel it squirm? Its like when you lose traction on a wet road, but it happens on dry roads aswell. Any ideas? ________ Cheap Glass Pipes Last edited by ibshort; 19-08-11 at 12:35 AM. |

Your clutch is slipping by the sounds of it...

Re: Bike revving out?
Search for "clutch adjustment" and make sure you check the clutch adjustment for both the cable slack, and for the lifter mechanism under the front sprocket cover.

Re: Bike revving out?
I think the cable slack is ok, as the lever not light, its not far off the end of the end of possible adjustment at the lever, so It might need adjusted properly.
Its going in for a service next week, so hopefully its just clutch adjustment then. Just a bit weird, that it only happens when it hits the powerband under harsh acceleration? Can any damage occur, assuming I dont accelerate hard so clutch doesnt slip? ________ MadamRedButterfly cam Last edited by ibshort; 19-08-11 at 12:35 AM. |

Quote:
If it has been over-adjusted at the handlebars then it could be that there is not enough or no free-play in the lever, which may cause the slip. If that's the case, you could try just backing that off a fraction and make sure you have the required 10-15mm or so free-movement of the clutch lever end with the bars straight ahead. |

Re: Bike revving out?
Thanks for replies, Hmm, over-adjustment could be the problem, as I did adjust it a few days ago and I dont think theres much free-play atm. Ill turn it back later on and see what happens.

Re: Bike revving out?
Sounds like the issue, I always leave a bit of slack/freeplay at the lever.
