Default Top Gear to change?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/jul/04/bbc.television2

I hope they don't go. I have nothing against Clarkson and I think he's entertaining, but I wish that the other pair were given more airtime (and consequently more cash). I like both May and Hammond and will happily watch non-car related programs with them on (I even watched May's wine program and I have no interest in wine). I can't say the same for Clarkson's other projects, although I enjoy his Times column and books. Sadly, BBC's cult of celebrity means that it's more likely that they will keep Clarkson on considerably more and get rid of the other two if they won't accept a lower salary.

I imagine topgear makes MILLIONS I read somewhere they show in 150+ countries.

To the extent that Clarkson signed a deal worth £2.5m to promote the show in other countries......the other two were offered well under £750k for the same.

I would bloody well turn it down as well.........They ARE part of the show and topgear would fail without them, the bbc know that, they know that.....and they will end up getting much larger deals by holding out.

I was amazed to see how popular it was in Holland in my recent visit there. They even had a Dutch version of Top Gear magazine!

The BBC do seem to be enjoying cashing in on their popularity

While I would miss Hamster especially & May, it would be all kinds of wrong for them to get the same as Clarkson.

Really? I've never seen that! Don't suppose you remember what channel it was on? I normally just watch the older episodes (on in 30 mins or so) on Friday night... (As well as the BBC 2 ones on a Sunday).

Can't beleive that they'd think it'd work without the other 2...

don't read it. clarson is a typical example of unfit, drunken, bitter, nasty individual who insists on having the high profile, technicaly engineered, fastest sports car. its a shame he doesn't apply that policy when it comes to his physical health.
yes at times he is very funny espiecally when its spontaneous, but these days its all very well rehearsed.
he doesn't annoy me at all i simply don't listen to him that much.
i watch top gear because i do find it entertaining, but not solely because of jc. lets face it if he was by himself veiwing figures would plummit.
