I think that's the annoying thing. My bike is 17 years old and can't be worth much to anyone. It's definitely nickable (like most things) but I hoped that it was enough trouble to not bother with. I'm still not at all convinced they would have been able to get it away last night anyway

Make sure its well lit up, PIR floodlight. if they can work in the dark they have time, if they are lit up like a xmas tree they may not take a second look.
Looks like your doing more than enough to secure the bike unfortunatly these people are usually one step ahead or will try anyway.
If you can move it out of sight then it will stop the passing chancer if he can't see it.

Things to note, always chain the rear wheel, a chain on the ground is much easier to break, 200Kg motorcycles can be lifted by a relatively small number of people.

When I was researching this I found stories of people lifting bikes over cars inside garages and one great story of a bike in complete bits being rebuilt by the thieves and ridden away.

Watching chains destroyed in less than 60s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VC3hFr8p2ck

Best chains and ground anchors: http://www.almax-security-chains.co.uk/Default.aspx

edit: get a disc lock with siren, probably the best deterrent in your situation.

I'll double up on agreeing that Almax do outshine the rest.

Sorry but I have to disagree. Disk locks are very easily defeated and the sounders in them silenced before they go off. IMO they are next to useless.

Out of view is best if possible. Some people will try to nick things even if they're not sure they can physically do it.. they'll try anyway if tempted, often doing damage to the bike or surrounding property in the process. I know of someone whose bike was properly messed up in a failed attempt and car trashed too as bike was dragged across the roof and bonnet.

Get a decent chain like an Almax, still beatable but will need a powered grinder which in a place like that is going to wake the dead.

Good use for a torque wrench. Might need recalibrating after though.

Almax Chain http://www.almax-security-chains.co....-p-0-0-70.aspx Anti Pinch Pin http://securityforbikes.com/anti-pinch-pin.php and a Torque Ground Anchor http://securityforbikes.com/torc-ground-anchor.php. If they get the bike after all that then jeez they can have it!

I would have imagined once the fella cut through the chain and got the bike started they would've hooked that fence up to the car and pulled it out the wall.
