Default Quick question about car MOT's

MY sister put her car in for its MOT and the guy said one headlight wasn't bright enough and needs a whole new headlight unit costing over £200. Does that sound legit? I thought you would just change the bulb?

sometimes the reflective foil can break down so a bulb wont make the difference,

however depending on the vehicle you should be able to get a good one from a breakers..

my dads car needed 2 units after 150k... cost £20..

200 pound does sound very expensive, unless it's a xenon unit then it sounds quite cheap what car is it for?

That sounds very expensive as I am pretty sure those are just normal halogen units. try a new bulb first obviously as that's only a couple of quid then if that doesn't work go to your local car parts supplier and see how much they are. They should only be held in by a couple of screws and clips so should be easy enough to replace.

the glass lens can also yellow which will dull the beam.

I was interested in this post because my headlights are shot in my car. So I did a search on Google. I came up with prices between 140 and 250 quid. I also found the www.hyundaicoupe.info forum and a warning about buying them off Ebay as they are not EU type approved or they are LHD only.

It depresses me that cars are being written off for things like headlamps and body control modules that make the car worthless but the spare parts cost more than the vehicle is worth.

Keep searching, but a breakers yard is probably the best bet or a (spit) chav who has put fancy lamps in his mums car.
