Default Caliper seals

My calipers have been playing up for a while so I'm putting on a spare set I have. The caliper and pistons are fine (unlike the ones I have that get too sticky too quickly) but I wanted to put new seals in.

I've heard that some people do not agree that bathing the seals in brake fluid is a good idea and that you should use red grease - but it this just on the dust seal or the fluid seal as well - wont the grease affect the fluid if its got direct contact with it? I grease the psitons when I clean them now but not down to the fluid seal.

Any tips appreciated

Red rubber grease should be used on all seals and won't affect the brake fluid at all, I use a bit on the pistons too, it helps it all slide back together and then not gum up. I very much doubt much of it makes it back past the fluid seal to the fluid filled part of the caliper anyway.

Cheers Jambo - my concern was if I put it on both sides with the piston out that the grease will be on the underside (fluid side) of the seal and might contaminate the fluid.

I'll go easy with it
