I felt like this one time ( ) when I had the SV. I got over it by:

1. Realising that within reason cleaning the bike a little less doesnt hurt (I know salt's an issue etc)
2. Using the bike for leisure and pleasure.

Like you, I find a short commute more trouble than its worth. People will disagree but its a personal thing. For summer I am going over to a light leather jacket, cordura or somesuch jeans and light boots and trying to do away with the changing thing so much etc.

For what its worth I nearly gave up a year in. I changed the priorities a bit and now I'm mad on it again. But the key for me is I dont do it everyday.

im yet to go out this year, (havent taxed it yet) but the lay off has made me all the more eager to get out. Did have it in mind to go out today for a blast but its been due a service so spent the afternoon changing oil, plugs and general cleaning (sprockets etc). Once ive flushed the cooling system and put on the new bellypan, the bike will be ready to ride. Shouldnt be long now...

I cleaned my bike on Saturday morning, after a trip to Liz's 100 mile round trip. It was minging again this morning and its now turned a nice white salty colour. When I washed it, it had a layer of mud and dirt sat on top of the can that was a good 1cm deep.

TBH I dont really clean it fastidiously in the winter, I just wash it when its get so bad you cant read the back number plate anymore. Its a thankless task trying to keep it clean in winter, just ride it and enjoy it.

I Just make sure I keep the mirrors and headilghts, brake light and indicators clean.

I like the challenge that riding in winter poses. Mind you I think I might be a little bit mad

I don't clean my bike that often, but when i do it feels good to see the swingarm under all that dirt. Don't clean it so often.

Worst comes to worst, just wipe the forks and the wheels off now and then to avoid corrotion.

Accidents happends in cars as well, so they are not 100% safe.
Possibly safer than bikes, but still...

I have a 35 - 45 min journey to work, and thats sort of the highlight of my day, but i can understand if you feel more bothered kitting up for just 10 minuets.

I worked out that i've had my bike for 4 months and cleaned it for the first time on sunday. You dont have to clean it, just ride the damned thing!
