Mouse Proofing Air Box (Pointy)

Hi,


Has anyone had problems with mice getting into the airbox? I had an incident in the past with my Honda CBR600 which was normally parked outside, the little buggers just about filled the space above the air filter with peanuts, peanut shells and mouse droppings. On that occasion no real damage was done, just a bit of nibbling round the edge of the air filter.


This time was much worse, they seem to have used it as a nest and toilet, the whole space was jammed with bits of paper and plastic, as semi-liquified died mouse, and all soaked in urine. This has dripped through the filter and into the throttle bodies corroding and seizing the motorised butterflies.


I think I have just about got it fixed, but wondered if anyone had found a neat way of installing mesh or something to stop this happening.

Having had a mouse issue in the house, best advice I had from a pest controller was use a metal mesh or wire wool to block up any holes as metal hurts their teeth. In your case I think wire wool would be too restrictive but some wire mesh should be okay as it's easy to fold shape and place in the intake tube . Holes in the mesh should be less than 3mm.

You need to keep the mice out of your bike full stop. An acquaintance had all sorts of strange things happening to her motorhome. Using the indicators would bring the headlights on e.t.c . Turned out (eventually) the blighters had nested under the dash and had a field day munching the wiring harness.
I dont like killing any thing (apart from slugs) but next autumn you could try an electronic repellent or something they are reputed not to like the smell of, e.g chili powder or ammonia and back that up with a few mouse traps if need be. Assuming that is they are field mice

A friend left his helmet in the garage over winter, that made a superb mouse home. Fortunately it was fairly old and in reality due for replacement anyway. He hasn't done it again.
