Default Front caliper seals/overhaul `99 curvy

EDITops bike is an `01, if that makes a difference.

Hi all, after a few months of inactivity, I went to check on my `01 curvy sv 650s the other day in the garage and the front brake is pretty much siezed on, so it looks like a caliper overhaul is necessary.

The bike hasnt been used since mid october, and the brakes were fine when it was put away.

Anyway, where do you lot get your seals from? Im assuming the seals must be shared with tons of other bikes using those same 2 pot calipers, so I shouldnt need to be ripped off by the local stealers surely?

Thanks, Lee

Pull them in bits and have a look, chances are seals can be reused.

thanks for that, stealers wanted £15 per caliper, so £30 for the 8 seals required. As Ive got the time, i`ll strip the brakes and see what if any are needed, but at £20 for the parts online, it may just pay me to change them anyway.

YC up thre always recommends chucking the seals in boiling water, it can get them back to normal size, if they havn't stretched / deteriorated too much

You'll need some rubber lubricant toooooo

Blimey they're tight in Yorkshire!

Seriously chaps, re-using caliper seals is plain daft. It is a question of safety after all.
At around £40 for genuine seals, including the slider rubbers, is hardly bank breaking is it?

Cheers.

But if you have 4 or even 6 pot calipers, stripping them 3 times a year for the precise reason so you don't have to spend a fortune then it seems daft to replace them every time.

You telling me that every time you service a slightly binding caliper you replace every seal on it?
