Default Tyres for track and road.

Hi I'm after some advice. I recently picked up an k6 sv with the the plan to use it as track and road bike. So in an ideal world I would have 3sets of wheels, one for track tyres, one wets and one road. Unfortunately budget and wife said this is no go so I was wondering what tyres you guys use in this circumstance. I'm an average rider at best and only done one track school but will use these tyres to go round the alps but I do expect the tyre to be dead when I get home. Thanks

I've used Metzeler Z6's both on & off the track, I can get my knee down using them. They are a good wet weather tyre on road.

They give good mileage and aren't expensive.

May have been superseded by the Z8

Others will give you their favourite tyre choice, but this is my experience

Michelin PR3s are good for the occasional track day whilst providing longevity. For a more grip orientated tyre, look at the michelin pilot power 3s

Thanks, I'm more than likely going to be more track based than road.

Then use Metzeler M3's or Racetec's

Bridgestone S20 is a decent track tyre and OK on the road. Otherwise Dunlop Sportsmart.

I'm quite a fan of the Bridgestone 016. Awesome grip and gives plenty of feel. The wet performance isn't quite up to par and I thrashed my way through a set in 2.5k. But I did like the tyre, it inspired a lot of confidence and I always felt it had more to give. I felt encouraged to push just that little bit further and they coped with everything I through at them.

If you don't mind burning through tyres like nobody's business then it's a good choice.

Also, +1 for PR3's plenty of grip wet or dry and mine are still going strong after 4.5k hard (read-hard by my standards) riding.

I've been using Michelin Pilot Power 2CT's on my SV1000 for about the last 20000 miles including 28 track days. They have been very good for both uses with excellent track performance ( good enough for knee downs, down the lefty of Craner Curves at Donington ) and just a slight 'cold' feel when in town. I would recommend them to anyone. Saying that, I had a few grip moments this year at Mallory this year but the pair had seen much better days. I have recently changed to Power 3's but can't comment on track performance until the end of the month at Oulton Park. Here is Cascades at Oulton Park last year on the Pilots.
