What is the point of this thread, everybody going on about what the reading of the clocks said and we all know the speedo lies!

Fact: The SV650 will not go past 130mph, proven and tested whether you want to admit it or not! It will need more cc's than that to push it past 130mph, and that is only a little way past!

Yet again another pointless 'my bike is faster than yours' thread which has now genuine proof of top speed....
Very sorry if i offended you!!i just wondered how fast people had been on an sv thats all!,personally i have a drz and had been looking at getting a sv,now ,im not after a race bike, but i dont want to buy an asthmatic old dog either.and so far i think the sv will be fine,so,for me at least ,this thread hasnt been a waste of time!,

It'd be good to get a GPS and see what the actual speed is. On my RF I've been lucky enough to borrow one and when doing an indicated 150mph, the GPS says 138mph. That makes it about 8% error? Seems to be about the same margin of error as my SV's indicated top speed of just 135 -140 (where the measured top speed has been reported at 125mph)
Is this a standard setting on Suzuki's, or all bikes, or is that just coincidence?

I would imagine that sound has an effect on the feeling of speed too. IL4's will be absolutely screaming at those kinds of speeds whereas a twin will be growling nicely. I always felt the 4's sound like they're going faster than they actually are.

I agree with Larry, if you want to know the true speed the easiest way is to slap on a sat-nav they are accurate with within +-0.1 mph, so you'll have a true reading and most remember top seed in trip info. When I had my curvy S back in 99-01 I saw 122 true speed on the flat and 126 on a slight decline.

Mind you yesterday when I picked up my wife's naked pointy from Swansea and came over the head of the valleys with a tail wind I did see an indicated 191 at one stage LOL.

I think the main asset of the SV is that the power is accessible, it doesn't feel fast or scary, you're not stopping for fuel every 100 miles and point to point you can make progress as quickly as many more powerful bikes. I know I wouldn't have got back from Swansea any sooner on my CBR.

I was on my BikeSafe course this weekend and following an instructor I was doing 64mph in a 60 . I questioned him on this with a small worry about gettng pulled and he informed me his speedo was calibrated to correct reading and that ours are a bit over optimistic .

Uhh... no, a SatNav has a different type of GPS system compared to a professional/military speed and location logger. Trust me, I know the military systems inside out .
