Just called my insurance broker who cant give me an answer to the hike in groups from 9 to 13. NIG are my insurers who I cant get in contact with.

Its down to NIG as to what my bike is classed as. They go on type, thefts, accidents. Which I think is bolloxs if you ask me.

So, this means that insurance companies can add groups to your bike without you knowing about it. So its worth checking your insurance to see if they have added a group or four to yours.

As far as I am aware, unlike cars, there are no 'official' insurance groups.

Therefore, both are probably based on slightly different groups and as such, I'd probably check the prices on a comparision website, and if you're not happy, see if you can cancel.

Other than that, probably not a lot of you can do and just a made up number they use interally to classify the risk.

not quite, insurance companies categorise vehicles by different categories, some have 20 insurance groups others have 17, the group is fairly irrelevant to the premium as the premium is based on statistics, hence why a 1.1 fiesta is expensive to insure as they are crashed a lot by young drivers but they are a group 2 or 3 car.

Does it matter what group it is as long as the price was right and the cover is right?
