Default 2007 Pointy - Cutting out at lights.

I have a 2007 Pointy with only 1700 miles. Bike is immaculate with almost no mods, but I also did the TPS modification and low speed is 1000% easier. Night and day difference. But now I have a problem that seems to have some up as well:

When approaching lights, if I close the throttle and let the engine braking wipe a lot of speed off in, say, third or second gear, then when I get to a standstill, pull in the clutch, the revs drop low enough to cut out. It'll start straight away on the button but it's still a bad thing. I almost got rear-ended today when the light turned green as I stopped, the person behind expected me to depart quickly, but I had to restart first.

Any ideas? There's no idle speed adjust on this model (that I can see). TPS is set around 1800-2000rpm (hard to tell exactly). Idle speed is normally OK.

My 2010 does this. Keen to see the answer.

Do you have more info on the TPS mod?

What is the engine speed at idle?
Have you bypassed the clutch switch?

my K7 done this a few times (auto idle) but since i changed the battery it's not done it since and may or may not have been the cause. the few times it has done it i can vaguely remember that the bike was in the high 90c temp and i coasted to a stop rather then take the bike down the gears. when it did do it i just put it down to one of those little niggles that pop up. i would say that if its doing it a lot then you have a problem.

Funnily enough, I have bypassed the clutch switch (how did you know???). What difference does that make? I just wrapped some wire around the two contacts and put the plug back in place.

Idle is normally about 1200-1300 I guess.

I just went surfing, and learned that when the clutch is pulled, the ECU makes a change to the engine map, probably for shift quality or something. Having it 'pulled in' (bypassed) all the time can lead to this stalling problem.

Thanks Jambo - you can chalk up another success - sounds like you fixed my problem. I'd have never thought of that!

How so you find out if the clutch switch is bypassed?

What's the pros/cons of bypassing the switch?

Do you need to pull in the clutch to start the bike, or it won't turn the starter motor? If yes, then your clutch is not bypassed and everything is good. If you can operate the starter using only the button, without needing to pull the clutch, then you have the same problem.

Pro's of bypassing it, mainly is that you start the bike one handed, like from the side. I like that. Cons are, it conks out at traffic lights...

Bypassing the clutch switch prevents the ecu changing to another map when you pull in the clutch. This can lead to stalling at lights, but can also mean as the ecu is always on the clutch in map, that the bike doesn't run quite as well.

Bring the switch back in and go for a little ride, if you still have an issue I'd say the idle speed is a little low, I'd be thinking around 1,500rpm when warm is about right. There's a screw for adjusting this on the left side of the bike just between the cylinders:

Hope this gets you sorted

Cheers.

How would I check to see if this switch has been bypassed by a previous owner.
