a new scam at petrol stations?
Tonight was the second time this has happened to me.
I put about 35litres of petrol in my wife’s Clio and when I went to pay, I gave pump number. I was told I must have made a mistake as this is not showing an outstanding sale. ‘luckily’ the man who had paid for mine had not left – with his Saab Diesel Estate car. And a much bigger bill. As he corrected his ‘mistake’ I said sarcastically that this was an easy thing to do. Has anyone else experienced this? Stephen McG |

What people put more than 35L in at once, bloody hell. I'd need to see a loan shark.

one of the reasons i like to use 'pay at pump' now, another being i don't have to take my lid off.

Re: a new scam at petrol stations?
I fill up tbh as it's a pain by me cos there aren't enough petrol stations for the amount if cars in the area so they are always busy so I hate waiting.
Anyway, filled my tdi golf up on sunday and it cost £73, for a fecking golf !!! |

Re: a new scam at petrol stations?
Not sure if I understand the scam? So the guy next to you paid for his bill and your bill? If so, that's not a scam, because they don't make any extra money. It's just a right old feck up by some blithering idiot who can't work the till properly.

Re: a new scam at petrol stations?
Presumably you are say his own bill was greater than yours but he had paid your bill because the cashier had given him the cost of your bill which was less.
To be honest it sounds like a non to intelligent cashier |

Re: a new scam at petrol stations?
He pays your small bill then drives off before the staff realise he was in the Audi with the full tank? Not had it happen but then my barge now costs over £120 to fill so no one is likely to pay my bill for me.

Re: a new scam at petrol stations?
Ahh, that makes more sense. I misread. Well, it could be them trying it on I suppose, but more likely the guy in the in the Saab pulling a fast one. Or more likely still, just a bunch of idiots doing a mind numbing job, not paying attention.
You're never really in any danger of being scammed that way, because you're parked next to a pump with a readout showing how much you've spent. Just know how much you have to pay when you go in, and then there won't be a problem if the pleb behind the till makes a mistake.

Re: a new scam at petrol stations?
Sounds about right, people will try anything the way fuel prices are going although with ANPR in stations I can't see how they'd get away with it for long.
