Edit: If you're loosing air at any rate at all, more than a psi or two in a week, it is worth seeing if you can find a leak. This does not need to be a piece of shrapnel in the tyre, as it can be leaking around the rim / side wall. Sometimes just having a tyre removed, the rim and bead cleaned and refitted resolves a slow leak.

You have a oil window. Takes seconds. Miss out and it's days to fix.

Well I checked today and it lost 6psi in two weeks which I guess isn't too bad? Just feels like it turns to a pig to handle overnight on day 14 for some reason... Could be placebo I guess.

New tires lose a bit for a while then it stays pretty much stable, or should do.

Firstly a couple of runs should form an absolute seal on the rim, secondly; and here i put on my anorack........when you first put on a new tyre you fill it with air, yes? all agreed?

good, air has a mix of molecules, some big, some small.

Rubber is slightly porous so will let out some of the smaller ones? Yes all agreed?

So, you have to top up to replace the smaller ones that have escaped. Eventually you will by the process of dilution have a tyre full of big ones that can't escape!!!

Tyre fitting companies will gladly inflate your tyres with this for about a fiver.

The rubber is pretty thick, I don't think the air "molecules" (i.e. nitrogen and oxygen molecules) can fit through it. Moisture can but that's a different story. Kwik Fit will fill your tyres with nitrogen and tell it makes a difference, it doesn't.

Anyhoo I have always found I have needed to top up bike tyres regularly, but not car tyres anything like as much. No idea why. One guess is that the tyre valve points inwards and spins faster so inertia is trying to press the valve stem. Could be utter rubbish but the observation remains, and I've been riding for a while now you could say.
