Got out today for a local 10k event. Mitre 10k. Did a respectable for me 47.11 official time.

Darren, my garmin tells me that my fitness age is 20.
Not too bad for a 43 year old.

Got out just now, dark and ****ing it down. I enjoyed it. Shame my head torch batteries gave up to the point of not worth wearing. Along the darkest most deserted stretch. Nothing like running in the bitch black on your own to help pick up the tempo. Just under 6 miles.

I've been stuck in bed with food poisoning for two days, so no running for me. On the torch front, these are excellent if you're looking for a replacement:

Well I’ve been to the physio this morning and it’s nothing majorly wrong with my knee. Bit of hamstring/knee tendon strain which is causing the soreness.
Got more exercises and stretches to do so I’ll be back out running soon

daktulos - thanks for the link, I run with a few people on Wednesdays with chest mounted lights and they seem to bounce around quite a bit compared to head torches.

I do like my Alpkit Gamma 3, that Gary suggested way back near the start of this thread.
However it is a little lacking in the wooded sections of a night run, especially when I'm trying to keep up with the fast group! I'm normally too knackered to be looking so closely at the floor.
So I have just pressed the buy button on it's bigger brother.

580 lumens should do the trick! Plus I can carry the other as a spare to keep away the Blair Witch moments.

I'll let you lot know how it performs.

Glad to hear it's nothing too serious DD. You should be back out there soon by the sound of it. Take it steady to start with though!

That looks like a good torch Martin. I like having the rear light on my Gamma though, for when I have to run on short stretches of back lanes between trails.

Qark had arrived when I got home. I haven't run tonight, but I did take it when walking my son to cubs as there is quite a dark stretch. Wow its like strapping the sun to your forehead. I feel sorry for anyone who stares at it 580 lumens is dazzling. The twist feature from zoom (narrow beam for distance) to wide is a nice feature. I'll take my phone on my next run and do a comparison.
I did see Alpkit also sell BLIP. A rear clip on light, 2 for £7.00. I wish I'd thought about it earlier as you get postage costs on such a small order. I'll see how it goes before buying these, I might just stick to using Gamma when running around Stansted of a night. And use Qark for trails (mainly to stop dazzled motorists crashing into each other once blinded, I'd feel quite bad if I made a biker crash).
