The clonk may well be the headlamp unit hitting the front mudguard. Maybe try securing that and see if the clonk goes away.

I tried turning the screw but couldn't seem to get them to point any higher.

no no, we now have brexit so no more CE approval stuff. ask LPH for some cricket gear, that should suffice.
