Default Ducati 848 / Honda CBR600rr

I popped into my local Ducati dealer and have now found myself booked on a test ride next saturday for both a Ducati 848 and possibly a CBR600rr.

These are the two bikes I was looking to move up to but I'm just aware I haven't been riding that long, although it has been every day use. Will it be a big ask to ride these bikes? I've also ridden a Buell XB12Ss and a BMW1200GS and didn't find them hard at all so think I'll be fine but I know a few of you would have tried these bikes and know the key differences.

I'm pretty excited to be honest, the 848 is an absolute beauty and I'd love to get one but would probably have to wait for second hand prices to come down a bit. The CBR is the more likely option but I think I want to stick with twins.

No it wont at the end of the day a bike is a bike. Just treat it with some respect and ease yourself into it, dont go pinning the throttle back to the stop as soon as you get on it. Same goes for the brakes, they'll be a step on the from the SV's to.

IMHO the Duke will take a little more getting used to than the CBR will even though your used to twins.

Why stick with twins?

Go try a triple. Get a test on a D675. You'll love it

I did fancy a go on a 675 but they look a bit small for me. I'd love a street triple at some point though.

Will let you know my thoughts, for what they're worth, next week!

I've only been riding for 6 months and until yesterday had only ridden my SV. I rode a CBR600rr around Darley Moor circuit and found it very easy to get used to. By the end of the day I wasn't exactly hanging around. As Fizz says, as longs as you don't try to ride them flat out straight away and treat them with respect, you should be capable of riding pretty much anything.

Good stuff madness. I'm at the same time frame as you, 6 months in. I think though that I've picked it up pretty quickly though as I've commuted on the bike since day 1, every day in all weathers and used the bike at weekends too for spirited rides so should be fine.

I'm not a loony on the bike by any means and the test rides are with the dealer in front of me so I won't be crashing into anyone hopefully! Sounds pretty cool actually, we both go out on a designated route and swap bikes half way! Great way to try them both out back to back. Was almost tempted to try out a streetfighter!

I would check out the insurance on the two. Imagine the 848 will be hugely expensive. Don't understand why you are mentioning an 848 when you say they are too expensive anyway.

If you want a twin again why not try an Aprilia?

I quite fancy an Aprilia Shiver 750 S. Message ends.
