Pointy ignition switch connector.
Hi all...
Ive finally discovered the root of my ignition problems... Every now and then i could put key in ignition and, nothing, no lights, no whirring of fuel pump etc etc, wiggle the wire and Bingo.... Delved into the problem this morning and found this where the wire from the ign connects under the bike My question is that if i was to purchase a second hand ignition barrel, is there any way of simply replacing the wires as i dont want to faff about with different keys etc... Any other solutions welcome! |

Re: Ignition Barrel Wiring
There is a connection in there,... but its intermittent.... so my current fix is a long zip tie around the connector that hangs out the side of the bike... so if it doesnt work.... joggle the zip tie... Hey presto!

Re: Ignition Barrel Wiring
Won't last...
Will go pop properly when you press the horn or something on the motorway and leave you stuck in lane 3... Cut connector out, replace with another one/bullets/whatever. Do proper job and be reet. Also you can use relay to feed headlights (highest draw item...) to reduce heat there and also give brighter lights.

Re: Ignition Barrel Wiring
Get it fixed mate. If you're at full lean doing 60mph and all the power cuts out, will you be able to wiggle the cable tie in time?
Ideally, replace the whole connector. A quick repair would be to bypass the melted terminal - i.e. cut the wires either side of the connector and join the two ends directly. Do a search on "dreaded green connector" and you'll find loads of info. EDIT: Beaten to it. |

Re: Ignition Barrel Wiring
Cheapest option is 4 bullet connectors, crimp, then solder. Insulate and add a good gob of silicon grease.

Re: Ignition Barrel Wiring
Nice connector with rubber seals etc but IMO too small pins.
