Default Cleaning Downpipes

most of the pictures i have seen on here seem to have nice and shiney downpipes... mine are all brown and red...
The question is how do i make them shiney?
I understand alot of time/effort is needed, but what to use?

Give them a good clean before you start, and then apply autosol

sv downpipes are a bugger to keep clean because the material the pipes are made from dis'colours because of heat, ive spent hours/days cleaning sv exhaust systems and after a few bimbles out they are just as bad they take alot of keeping ontop of if you want them to stay looking good.

i know its harsh but i found a green pan scourer and autosol was enuf to keep ontop of it.

I don't mind the discolouring, it's just the brown/red stuff that appears :P

How easy is it to do on the bike or is it better to try and take them off?

You would get better access and probably a better clean with them off, but tbh with the rate at which they will discolour again i would say its not really worth removing them.

Dizzy blonde recommended bar keepers friend. Great stuff for cleaning all the discoloured carp off, then into the autosol and it'll be better than new

Thats because I've been busy crying over the paint mess on my new bike

Yes, as above, all nice and shiny. If you want to get your teeth into it, then go down the wet n dry route, using 240, 400,800, 1200 grit, then autosol on FINE wire wool.
