BBC gives up on all bar moto GP...
Below is a reply i got from the BBc reguarding there pee poor web coverage of motorbike sports...
Hi Jas, Thank you for your email. BBC Sport is reconfiguring its coverage of Motorsport to better reflect its rights portfolio. Our plan is to focus more of our attention on our two big properties within Motorsport, namely Formula One and Moto GP. We simply cannot take on significant new projects like F1 - to which we will be devoting a lot more of our editorial time and budget from the 2009 season onwards - without something having to give. This has led to a reorganisation, which will, unfortunately, impact on other parts of our output. The plan is for F1 to become a 'top-level' page in its own right, and not be a sub-section of Motorsport, with Motorbikes also doing the same, but re-branded as Moto GP. We will still have a Motorsport section for anything else we choose to do, but this area will not, as a default position, carry reports of World Superbikes. Of course, if anything happens within World Superbikes to justify a one-off story, we would consider covering that, but we won't be carrying regular reports as we have in the past. It's worth saying that this editorial review is not just limited to motorsport. We won't be carrying reports of the IPL in cricket as a default this year, and there are other sports too which are demanding of our attention but which we simply cannot afford the resources to cover. Like any other company, the BBC is affected by the economic downturn and we simply cannot cover everything, so have to prioritise and be selective. And, specifically in the area of motorbikes, it makes clear sense to reflect those areas where we boast a strong rights portfolio. Yours sincerely, Lewis Wiltshire, Live Sports Editor, BBC Sport Interactive. Jas... |

WSB and IPL? Apples and oranges? Apples and giraffes?
How do you get to be Live Sports Editor when you know nothing and care less? Because you're good with budgets presumably. *sigh* |

I never used the BBC sports website anyway so I won't notice them doing anything differently. If the MotoGP and F1 sections are really good I might become a regular visitor. I'd rather they just did those two things innovatively and thoroughly, if the alternative is a watered down look at the entire world of motorsport. |

I was looking at the BBC F1 website, its looks really good. I'll look at motogp.com if I want motogp stuff. Not fussed if the BBC dont cover it on the web.

He's giving examples of sports/series' they won't be able to report on in the same way as they once did. They won't be covering WSB, and to illustrate the fact that it's not just motorsport that will be affected, they won't be covering the 20twenty IPL either. |
