Default I Brought Myself An Early Christmas Present.

As much as I'd love for it to be a new bike it's not. But I have brought a new (to me) car for project trackdays planned for next year. I had no intention of buying a car this year but this come up and I knew it wouldn't hang around for long.

The pictures that were on eBay.

Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDi Top Of The Range Laurin & Klement with the biggest engine (130 bhp), 6 speed and all the mod cons. Really clean and tidy for a car that's done 99,000 miles. Just to buy a trailer and get the bike sorted for March and I'm ready for the track.

Skoda (VW) are a bit specific about what oil you can use in it, my neighbour says, which does make getting cheaper oil for it a problem, although my neighbour is a bit OCD about this kind of thing.

Apart from that, he uses some form of fuel additive which keeps one of the turbo sensors clean and stops a service light from coming on. Only applies if you do lots of short journeys. When he was doing Felixstowe to Newcastle it wasn't a problem. But since he doesn't do these journeys any more, its become an irritant

But that's normal in a lot of modern diesels

This has been to a main dealer most of it's life then went to a Bosch garage after that. Once I get everything sorted for the trackday I'll be booking it in for a service at a main dealer just to have piece of mind if nothing else.

It's relatively cheap to tax Octavia's. My dad has the new shape one and costs £30 for a year! My car above is only £130 and the engine size down from mine is £115. Other manufacturers with similar engine size is £160 a year! Also insurance on this car for me (22 year old, 2 yr NCB) is only £970 a year fully comp.

Not the kind of car you'd see a 22 year old in but that doesn't worry me. I've been driving a bright green Polo round for the last 15 months.

Common sense hit me. I don't enjoy going for a 'bimble' on the roads now that I have a driving job. So I'm going to do it in a place where it's fine to speed and knee down in the bends. Depending on how it goes I might buy a dedicated bike for it.

Talking Re: I Brought Myself An Early Christmas Present.

A mate at work swears this is the best car in the world and moans about selling his almost every time he sees any other car that reminds him of it.

Unfortunately it too was silver & if someone is in ear shot when he sees a silver car/a Skoda and the odd occasion when someone decides to wind him up, we get the 'I wish I hadn't flogged my Octavia' story (a bit like Pavlovs dogs).

Enjoy, looks nice, just hope you don't suffer from the same side effects as my mate if you ever decide to sell it.

You shouldn't regret that purchase, until you have to drive a date home and she sees that centre console and pukes in the passenger footwell. At least with the Polo she would puke before she got in!

I use a fully synthetic VW505 specification oil in the Seat that I get from a local motor factor, and it costs about £23 quid for a 4 litre tub. A lot cheaper than Castrol, etc. I'll post the brand when I've been out to the garage tomorrow.
