Default PC help required - Graphics Card & PSU

I know the basics of computer parts but want to get some info from people more in the know. My PC specs include:

Intel i5 3550
8Gb DDR3 RAM
500Gb 7200rpm HDD
22x DVD/RW
ASUS Z77 Motherboard
NVIDIA GT630
Xigmatek 500W PSU

I want to stick an NVIDIA GT560 Ti in there to replace the GT630. The NVIDIA website says the minimum PSU required is a 500W so I'm basically asking if I can go ahead with the swap or will it put too much strain on the PSU and risk damaging other components?

Thanks.

It would depend on the quality of the PSU and how the loads are spread on the different voltage rails.

Do you know the make and model of the PSU, it should also have a label on it somewhere which shows the max loads on the 12v, 5v and 3.3v line.

It's a Xigmatek 500W PSU. Will check the max load either tonight or tomorrow.

i would buy a better quality 600W unit, a lot of units state they are xxxW, but never truly are

worth giving it a go as long as you have enough power connectors to the card. I have an antec 500w currently providing juice to 2 x 5850 running full tilt mining

The problem is that as you run a cheaper PSU closer to its limit the voltage levels will deviate from standard and that is where you get issues where as a quality unit will hold its voltages up to its rated power and often beyond.

If you find out your model you can do a quick google search to see if anyone has tested your PSU, http://www.jonnyguru.com and www.hardocp.com can be quite good for PSU testing.

For your sized system a 'lower wattage' quality psu like a Corsair 550W would be better then a cheap 800W+.
