A scary government letter was waiting for me when I got home today. But it turned out to be a nice little tax rebate of £118 which will go nicely towards replacing my punctured tyre. Yin Yang

This could have gone in the gripe thread but on balance it was more funny than annoying.

Spent the day in that London, escorting Lady Poppy to a course she'd booked at Canary Wharf, went to the fascinating and free Design Museum, yadda yadda and picked the good Lady up again at 4 for the journey home. So far so good. The tube from CW was pulling in as we got off the escalator, super, easy walk from Baker Street to Marylebone, walked straight on to the 16:50 service to Oxford with 2 minutes to spare. Not bad. Trouble is the driver forgot to stop at High Wycombe... Cue lots of angry people all around us calling people who were waiting to pick them up but silence from the driver - no announcement, no apology, nothing. Just as we pulled in to the next station we had a mumbled excuse about technology failures but come on mate, you forgot! The only redeeming thing is Chiltern Railways held the train that should have already left the next station so we could go straight back.

Thankfully yes. We puled in just the next train from Marylebone arrived so there were two trainloads of us all trying to get out of the station at once

So maybe the dispute on Southern railways is valid. Keep the guards on the train to remind the driver to stop!
