Default Prince2

So I'm now officially a qualified practitioner, although with nearly 20yrs experience in project management in some form or other, the only value appears to be in boosting the CV.

I'm not actually in a PM role anymore, but decided I'd put the training budget to good use to add feathers to my bow so to speak.

Anyone else done it recently?

Did it last year. I hate those assertion/reason type questions

Since I did my Prince2, I have also done management of change and risk management.

At least you have 5 years until you have to re-qualify.

Stretchie did it a little while back. Lots of work to do in one week, especially as he didn't start looking at the textbook until the night before the course started, lol.

He did it though, the foundation and practitioner in a week so I was very proud of him

Yeah - same here, I got the book about 2 months before and opened it the night before lol.

I did some ITL stuff the other year as well, pretty pointless theory, however I guess needs must in today's world of ticking boxes instead of using one's grey matter!

Sounds like the course I did too. Mine was a thank you from the company for steering a very visible project through to a successful conclusion - odd really, teaching me how to do it afterwards but... I've not been in projects properly since and it's now probably expired, but it's still on my CV.

Yeah, practitioner here. Not that it means anything, just a buzz word on the CV.

Can you honestly say that your place activley practices Prince 2? That wasn't meant for anyone person by the way, just an open question to think about.

My brother works in the civil service, it's mandated for them.

Imagine that lol?

Seriously though, if an organisation is fully committed to it, I think it works. Most places look to it as a panacea though and expect it to 'fix' some of the organisational issues they have.

Firstly Prince2 is supposed to be tailored. So when it comes to project execution, an out of the box Prince2 is not Prince2.

I have work large/small projects using elements of Prince2. Take what is appropriate within the project context.

PRojects IN Controlled Environments. A project management methodology from the Office of Government Commerce. The defacto standard for UK project management, especially in government contracts.
