Default 2016 SV650 & New Rider

Hi guys

I'm a newly qualified rider with a brilliant 2016 SV650 as my first bike. I absolutely love it and have made some small modifications to it already (small screen for touring, crash bobbins, mirror extenders, Beowolf exhaust, Suzuki tucked roll seat with gel insert and tank protector).

I'm 6 foot 3 and approx 16 stone so the bikes suspension, while it feels ok to me at the minute, I'd like to upgrade the shock to handle my weight better. I've got the preload on max and the rear still feels weird when riding over bumpy sections. Without having to fork out a few hundred on a new Nitron shock, whats a good option from another bike? I've seen people use zx6r, gsxr and zzr1400 shocks but unsure what would fit my bike?

Also, can anyone recommend a good "do it all" tyre. Something with plenty of grip that can also cope with the rain (living in Scotland).

Cheers in advance for any advice

Chris

Congrats on the bike and welcome I'm 100kg and use a zzr1400 rear shock and it is great. Tyre wise I use a Metzeller z8 which I have track day'd and toured europe on and they are great! Enjoy the bike mate

Thanks for the quick reply and thanks! Did you had to mod any of the battery box to make it fit? I'm unsure how different the AL7 is to previous models in terms of clearance. One way to find out I guess! I'll check out the Z8s, many thanks

I had to remove the cover from the battery box but it didn't take long about 20mins

I swapped the original tyres for Michelin PR4's. Much more confidence inspiring in the damp.

I'd guess that a rear shock that'll fit an ABS equipped SFV650 ie Gladius will fit our bike. Not tried it yet myself, but as the L7 is a tweak of the SFV, the hugger is the same for example, then it might not be the cheapest, but easiest option, I.m thinkoing something like this might be an option: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3319562579...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Nitron haven't had a L7 SV650 in to see what shock will fit, so if anyone's in the Witney area and fancy them seeing what is the one for our bikes, their post code is OX28 4XZ and the phone number is 01993 849449. DougieG is a bit closer than cstewa37 and myself

I think that they offer a sizeable discount for the trial fit bike.
