SV engine temperature?
Hi All,
I was on a ride out today organised by Bridgenorth Bikers. Over 200 bikes on a 1 hr ride. Anyway, about 20 minutes into the ride due to tinkering along at an avg 15-20 mph through the streets i noticed my temp creaping higher and higher. It reached 104'c at its highest, then as the ride speed increased the temperature started dropping bearing in mind the outside air temp was about 3'c. My question is, at what point is the temp to high?. I was starting to get a little worried. Im new to biking and new to riding an SV so I'm a total novice. Any advice is appreciated. Ta. |

Re: Sv Temp
Welcome.
I think your fan would have kicked in at 104 on a pointy. I think that is the magic number. |

Re: Sv Temp
Have a search on here. The temperature on the instruments and the temperature switch for the fan are located in different places so there can be a little variation between what the dash says and when the fan comes on.

SV engine temperature?
Hi, welcome.
104 is pretty much spot on, that's when the fan should kick in. I have hit 105 on the dash once on the hottest ride with most stationary traffic encountered. But it dropped again fairly quickly.

Re: SV engine temperature?
If you've got fairing lowers like it looks like in your pictures it'll get warm, when you're not moving it's going to get hot, as said above 104*C is about when the fan kicks in, so no worries then. Start to worry if you're approaching 120, then panic if you get near 130!

Re: SV engine temperature?
During my commutes in London (where there can be a lot of moving slow and standing still) with my sv650s my temperature after say 15-20 minutes seems to be between 85-95 most of the time. During the summer months it goes higher.
I wouldn't be worried about your temperature unless you noticed a drastic change over short time. Assume all fluid levels etc. are good? |

Re: SV engine temperature?
When I bought my sv650 it was a bakini faired bike and on my daily commute into london and it would sit around 80 to 100 once I put on lower fairing it now sits around 90 to 107 at its highest in the summer stationary in traffic. Mine has never gone above 107 and fan kicks in bang on 104
