And here my friends is where there is a striking difference between where I live and the rest off the world.

If you plan on inappropriately touching or hitting a female make sure there is no one in the room from the US

We will defend a ladies honour to the death. Laws or no laws.

Fortunately I've always been one of those 'speak softly and carry a big stick' sort.
(they don't call me BanannaMan for nothing you know)

The last person who hit a young lady in front of me was at a Boston concert.
Some drugged out punk was pushing people towards the stage when a young girl standing next to me turned around
and told him to stop. He (closed fist) backhanded her across the face as hard as he could but left himself open for a right
uppercut so I hit him as hard as I could just for good measure.

He was knocked out and I watched as all his teeth fell out while he was falling to the floor.
Turns out security had been watching him from the stage.
I was pointed out as who hit him when the Police came to drag him off so and thanked they me for "taking care of the problem".


I probably would not fair as well with the laws in the UK, but it wouldn't change anything, that's something you think about after the fact.


It's something that has been so ingrained in our traditions for so long it's not even something you think about ,
it's how you react when you see a lady being treated that way.


May not be politically correct in today's society but it's the one American trait I make no apologies for.
Defending a woman's honour is part of what it means to be a gentleman.




Good on the girl for ripping the mirror off!!
In a perfect world he would be convicted of assault but I doubt reporting this would have gone far.

The law is the last thing you want to worry about. It's his mate doing the driving. Oh and you don't pick fights with men in vans. They're often builders or labourers who do really heavy stuff day in day out. With long heavy metal tools to hand. Probably no guns mind.

And the "defending ladies honour" thing often doesn't wash either. They can get offended that you consider them so small and weak that they need defending.

You have to pick your battles.

But,
Therein the difference between where I live and the rest of the world.

Not saying it doesn't ever happen but unless it were dark and no one was around the driver would not
think about coming around the van with a metal tool in hand.
It's all the provocation anyone needs to shoot you dead and the shopkeeper at the store you are
in front of would not hesitate, er,
if someone on the sidewalk doesn't get you first.


In fact we don't take kindly to anyone joining in a one on one fight.
If you visit the south of the US and your mate gets into a fight, better let him fight his own battles.

Joining in a 'fair fight' may get you a far worse beating by the bystanders than yor friend got in the fight.
And joining in as the only one with a weapon and/or joining in against someone who is defending someone else is something one will suffer
dearly for sooner or later.
Possibly at the hands of their own friends.



As for the ladies, they are the same here now.
You'd better know they are in need of help or you're likely to get an earful as well.



TBH, even though this guy needs a good punchup, what I likely would have done in this situation is dismounted and
asked the young lady if there was a problem. I find this works quite well most of the time.
She says no and everyone buggers off in different directions.
Although his touching was inappropriate it was not violent .
Defusing the situation is often a much better solution than trying to give someone what they have coming.

We had a H&S management audit today. Why the smile?

Passed without comment, recommendations or observations which is practically unheard of. But better still one of the team made cake for us, so we were audit over tea and cake.
If Carlsberg did H&S audits I'm sure they would be over tea and cake!

I emailed the hotel manager opposite work today and said I need to stay up after a dinner in April. Our budgets have been cut so asked him what was the best rate he could do me. It's usually £200+ a night.

I mentioned that as we have a newly built stand I'll send him some new photos from the first big match for them to use in their marketing materials.

He replied that as me supplying images saves him buying them from an agency he's happy to sort me out a room free in April.

What a sensible way of bartering.
