Default K&N / Pipercross Air filters

hey all..wanna treat me bike to somethin relatively cheap...

was looking at K&N Air filters and Pipercross ones...

wondered if anybody has them and what sort of difference they make?

do they change the sound? fuel economy? power etc?....

would i also need a crank case breather?....

any advice comments welcome

Thanks...

Not really worth going down the performance filter route with just a slip-on, I would recommend the BMC Road air filter.

Do you have a 33bhp restricted bike?

I recently fitted a Pipercross to my K3 SV650 and it sounds nice. I dont feel any performance gain but the sound is sweet. And the fitment of the filter was 100% perfect.

Yeah the BMC Road will suit

Just a note for restricted owners - only use OEM filters, the restricted SV's run properly only on these filters.

From the crankcase breather question, you're talking about seperate pods here right, and airbox elimination? Not just a performance filter? That's not a cheap or easy option, or a particularily sensible one generally.

Lots of people think "I'll fit a performance air filter", but it doesn't give you power, it takes it away, unless you also rejet to suit. Which means you end up spending more time and money to get the fuelling right... And when you finally put it on the dyno to compare, you find you've gained half a bhp It's really only worth getting into if you take it a lot further, even with a good full system and full rejet the gains aren't huge.

That's what I fitted at twice the price of an OEM. I was very annoyed when my mechanic told me it was disposable & not washable as I thought

Ah, cool then, in that case ignore all that, you don't need a crankcase breather filter- the SV has one in the airbox.

All the ones I have fitted have been washable, this includes Pointy's, Curvy's and all makes and models of bikes.

Think you got had mate, was your mechanic making a bit more money by swapping yours and then cleaning and selling the BMC on by any chance?

SV650 (03 on) BMC Air Filter (Road)
Formula 1 & World Superbike Air Filter Technology For The Street. Widely used at the top levels of world motor sport, BMC Air filters offer increased horsepower and increased throttle response. They guarantee a superior airflow capacity to that of traditional paper or foam filters. This ensures a minium loss of power. They are washable and re-useable too, so BMC filters represent excellent value for money as they can be used, cleaned and re-used over and over again!

You can get them from Twinshack, good company and great customer service.
