These were the maximum readings taken, in official terms we would take the average of many runs!

well i've read everyone's reply on this particular post and you know what....................i'm fooking gutted! here's me ragging the **** off my sv thinking it will do just under 140mph only to be told it does 125 max - god dam it!

well here's my comments on it. first time i went on a bike ride with a few lads out round where i live, one of the guys past a comment along the lines of. "oh we can't really go riding there cus he will struggle to keep up with that bike". he also had the nerve to say "no offence mate". basically the lowest cc bike there besides me was a 696 kwak. anyways, once we had fuelled up and got in to some rural areas they started to open up on there bikes thinking that i would be bringing up the rear. well low and behold we get the twisty bits and the sv comes into its own and its more than quick enough to keep up with most modern bikes over 600cc. you know as well as me anyone can go fast in a straight line but you have to have balls to keep it going into bends and the sv gives you the confidence to do that. shame about the crap suspension and brakes tho. but hey thats what ya get for a budget bike. well thats my thoughts on this post.

ps. mine does 138 - still had more there. oh and i end up redlining it. i know its not clever but the sv gets there pretty qiuick when you are riding with bigger bikes

What does it matter if the speedo is genuine?

I mean, the only thing top speeds are generally used for is comparing with other peoples bikes or cars, or joe public's perception, and for all that the unit currency is speedo reading.

So whilst everything is around 8% over the truth, your still comparing apples to apples.

I've had 126mph showing on mine on the flat, and it did seem to stop speeding up quickly at around that point. But its more than enough to make crashing unpleasant, and certainly enough to lose your licence, so it will do me!

So the manufacturers are telling porkies on their data sheets, I'll be contacting trading standards in the morning. Roll on Galileo, then the US will have something to worry about.

You're all a bunch of light weights... a decent can and air filter and I got this, and it's amazingly economical for a naked too.

Of course, taking into account a 10% error, I was probably only doing about 168mph...

You really should warm up your bike more before doing these kinds of speeds. (esp. as I recall you were doing this in London traffic) Really Billy, I thought you knew better
