Default This new (old its been mentioned before) 50/20mph speed limit think

How can we fight against it? Im fed up of this Government and its stupid short sighted make us look good safety crap. Its been shown by themselves that speeding is not a cause of accidents!!! So how is it that this is seriously been considered and the way its being talked about will certainly come in?

What can we do to make sure it doesnt happen?

Discuss.

Below are links to ways which we might make a difference;

Questionnaire on the new road safety proposal. http://www.dft.gov.uk/consultations/open/roadsafetyconsultation/consultationresponse

Obviously tell them the speed thing on rural roads is rubbish and that cracking down on speed is also useless but drinking, drug etc is what they should be sorting!!!

Petition

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/noNSLreduction/

E-mail these with your thoughts;

It is not often I am moved to write letters of complaint, however I have read in various articles that forces are in motion to reduce the presumed NSL on single carriageways to 50mph.
I do not trust the judgement of the authorities to properly asses roads to give exception to this rule and believe that this measure will criminalise a vast sect of the UK motoring public by restricting their safe and previously legal progress. Furthermore, draconian enforcement of this measure will result in nothing more than further cynicism for the road traffic laws of this country.
In my opinion, respect breeds respect. If drivers are respected, they will show respect to the law. If they are patronised and restricted in speed in places where it is clearly not beneficial in the slightest then they will ignore speed limits where they ARE necessary also.

There have also been calls for a more difficult driving test, I do not believe this is beneficial. A test by its very nature is "jumping through a hoop" to obtain a license, it is my firm belief that the current driving test is far too biased towards low speed manoeuvring around town et cetera and that a few hours of tuition on the principles of advanced motoring would give new drivers a far better start than making the current test harder still. You will find that accident statistics support this, FAR more young drivers are KSI on the roads due to not understanding the principles of cornering at reasonable speeds than those not managing a textbook perfect turn-in-the-road.

Respect breeds respect, enforce the law vigorously against those who drink and drive, those who do not have insurance and those who endanger others. Seek to educate drivers in life saving and useful skills. Do not criminalise those making perfectly reasonable and safe progress as they have been doing for years.

I hope this email will go some way as to convince you to oppose this change to NSL on behalf of your constituency, and on behalf of the motoring public at large.

Yours

Certainly is an issue - I have a healthy respect for 20/30/40 limits WHEN they are appropriate and even when I don't feel they are appropriate I try to stick to them. I always reduce my speed even further if circumstances/hazards dictate.

Personlly I believe that the blame lays solely at the hands of motorists (including bikers) completely ignoring speed limits and highway codes, showing no respect for their own and other vehicles/surroundings/hazards etc.

Until these people can be educated somehwo to accept that they cannot continue showing such disregard, the authorities will continue to clamp down harder and harder spoiling it for the rest of us/sensible ones.

Interesting readin comments on the times online I just hope the Government does what it should and listens to the people. Its a joke all this. If they really want to make a change they need to look at crappy road layouts. Of course spending money on anything but camera's to make money is not likely to happen...

Labour, the Government for the people. My ar$e.

What c0ckweasel wrote that article? "enthusiasm for speed cameras second only to Britains". Mr Ross Clark you need chaining to a gatso and setting fire to.

If they REALLY REALLY wanted to make roads safer they'd make houses only allowed 1 car to reduce traffic on the roads. I've just come back from Fueterventura and over there the roads are amazing, hardly any cars and **** all to drive into.

But they wont do that because roads users create such a massive income for the gov. They need that money to fund the porn channel subscriptions in their second homes.
