Won an 03/04 ZX6R shock 4 my curvy 2nite :)
Managed to bag a ZX6R shock on ebay 2nite for £32 delivered, he shoots he scores!
Gonna do a search on here for someone that's fitted one and has instructions to avoid pitfalls. Can't wait to feel the difference Last edited by SVmonkey; 21-03-07 at 09:19 AM. |

There is a guide on the main website I think that pretty good. If not I've fitted one before so should be able to help if necessary. Just PM me with any questions. Have you sorted the bolt for the top of the shock?

Cheers Andy
What bolt? Maybe I should have done a search for a fitting guide first so I knew what else was needed....doh! So what do I need then? I've seen the ZX10 fitting guide in the faq. Last edited by SVmonkey; 21-03-07 at 09:19 AM. |

This is the auction http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...5425&rd=1&rd=1
This is the shock: This is the right one yeah? I take it the bolt I need is like the one on the top of this 2005 ZX6R shock right? |

It's either the top or bottom one you need (well it has to be one of them ). Lets say its the top, (it'll be obvious when you see it) you need to put the Sv top bolt into the bottom of the ZX shock and put a new bolt into the top of the ZX shock. I think I have to correct bolt at home if you want it? AFAIK zx6 and zx10 shocks roughly the same to fit.

Re: Won an 03/04 ZX6R shock 4 my curvy 2nite :)
I have just fitted an '05 Zx6-R shock to my SV which Andy sold to me, bike feels so much better now . Bike now feels very composed at speed and handling is massively improved. The shock is quite firm so it kicks back a little on bumpy roads, but its not too bad. But on smoother roads, the bike glides along, where my SV used to bounce along! I got a garage to fit mine and they said it was pretty simple, only issue was that my old shock had seized in place, so that upped the labour to 3 hours .
I'm tempted to have a play with the damping and preload now but I dont wanna f**k it up! Anyone got any useful tips on what I should twiddle on an '05 ZX6-R shock? I weigh about 11.5 stones and like to ride pretty quickly |

Re: Won an 03/04 ZX6R shock 4 my curvy 2nite :)
I reckon I'm with you now Andy, Here goes:
I can use the u-shaped bracket thing from the SV on the Kwak shock but I will need to use the mounting bolt from the top at the bottom of the shock, I assume something to do with length? Or find another bolt that is short / long enough to do the job at the bottom. If you have a spare bolt Andy, that would be great. PM me with details Chris |

Do a seach for a fitting guide on here.I think it was "Silent" who posted it and it covers what you need to know.I seem to recall it's the bottom bolt that needs changing as the SV one screws direct into the bracket.???

correct. Just put a ZX10 shock on my curvy. Top bolt from SV reused and new bottom bolt sourced. You need a new bolt about 10mm (thickness of a nut) longer than the one coming out, install the bolt the other way round else the nut fouls the dog-bone.

Re: Won an 03/04 ZX6R shock 4 my curvy 2nite :)
Yeah I've seen Silent's guide in the FAQ for the ZX10R. Cheers for the extra info Luckypants.
Couple of Qs: 1. Is there any shimming required to take up play between shock and brackets / linkage at any point? 2. Are there any real differences between fitting the 6 or the 10 shock? 3. I know the 6 shock is 2mm longer, does that make a huge difference to rear ride height / handling / linkage geometry? I have searched for answers to these questions but couldn;t find them, sorry if they are out there. Last edited by SVmonkey; 21-03-07 at 04:07 PM. |
