I'll have a set of pointy inlet cams for sale at the weekend, cheapest upgrade for a performance boost.

Ride in a gear higher than you do normally.

Put it back to back with another bike and you're keeping up with them, almost wondering why because there isn't really that screaming power hurtling you along.
In terms of power there are some quick wins, plenty of threads on here discussing things like the cam swap, but after that it's serious money. Mate of mine has a big bore kit and it does feel fast. If you want to ride fast on the road, or on the track, you need training in how (and they're quite different skill sets). And yep, being in good shape is good for everything!
I agree - been out with people on more powerful bikes, my brother's have CBR600 and VFR800 and at all legal speeds I have absolutely no problem keeping up with them, in fact they are surprised how quick off the mark my AL7 is, and can still get over 70mpg without trying too hard.... anyone who regularly does over 70 on normal UK roads is asking for trouble..

So tonight, on the way home, caught up with a BMW R1200RT who was filtering for Britain but could he get rid of me? Nope!

It was a good chance to really think about how I could improve the bike in any way. I already have a smaller cog, so I have the acceleration, so the only thing I can think of is a quick throttle to gain more of the available power.

The bike is a K4 Pointy - so I guess the R6 throttle tube hack doesn't work?

As for the pie route - here are the figures!

SV650S Wet weight - 198Kg
Pie Eater - 110Kg
BHP - 72 BHP

BHP /(SV + PE) =
72 / (198 + 110) = 0.23 hp / Kg or 4.27 Kg / HP

so that means losing 14 lbs, a stone or 6.3 Kg will help gain 1.5 hp!

I managed to keep my weight to between 12 stone and 12.5 stone for a long while until early last year when over exercising I pulled a stomach muscle.Took a while to heal and I got lazy and over the year climbed up to around 200 Lbs from around 170lbs ish.

Losing excess weight is one of the best performance boosts you can use IMHO.

When I was lighter I had to be careful not to wheelie my SV and I can tell the difference in performance now. It's still great but there it a noticeable difference.

Slowly trying to get mine back down but not easy when you are older and love cheap Supermarket beer

Don't bother if you are finding you need more power get a Sv1000 I did it goes handles and stops better than the 650 there we go I said it I've had 2 sv650s just for reference.
