MOT failed - SV650.org

Darn it, failed as one of the rear brake mounting screws had shear off... Will have to drill that out this weekend, though I'm a little worried about screwing it up.
Anyone got some tips?

Start with a small pilot drill and use progressively biggers drill bits. Is it sheared off in the caliper???

Give the remnants a good soak in penetrating fluid before you start. take the caliper mounting bracket off and drill it in a press if you can, more chance of keeping it all perpindicular. Start with a small drill and work up progressively, try an easy out by all means but if it snaps its going to be a pain in the arris. Me I'd probably just drill and helicoil if I had to.

Indeed, drilling it out is the way to go. Make sure the drill is going in straight and that you are in the centre. What will more than likely happen is the bolt will disintegrate as it gets thinner. Either that or it will start to spin and you will be able to take it out.

Homebase have started carrying HSS left handed bits... They're a bit crap, but once you have a pilot hole you could run the next hole left handed- might pull the bolt for you.

Top tip and goods advice, LH drill bits re good for this -previously only available from tool suppliers and biug bucks. Thanks I'll bear it in mind the next time I break something.

I've just used mine the once... I'd say they're roughly as high quality as the usual homebase own brand drill bits

But then, you'll not want to use them as often as real bits.
