Default 13500 miles on rear tyre

Looks like I am going to have to change my rear tyre at 13500 miles. It's an Avon Storm 3D X-M, still has tread left but the tyre is starting to deteriorate along the centre.

I recently changed my rear tyre even though it had some tread left it as old enough to be close to year age replacement. The centre was finally finished off by some of the crappy road-resurfacing gouged road surfaces around here.

I now try to avoid these surfaces where I can as they can rip the guts out of Motorcycle tyres.I don't expect too high a mileage from my rear tyre/s due to my riding style but don't mind as they are a Sacrificial part and I like fresh rubber

I'm a fan of the Storms. Got 12K out of a rear on my K6, compared with 5K out of the **** Dunlop OEM job on my AL7. The funny thing is, the replacement Storm has much better grip than the Qualifiers.

My next tyres are deffo gonna be storms, got Avon ZV7 on both our cars and the wet and dry grip is chalk and cheese compared to Michelins I've had before, and quiet to boot, too soon to to say how long they will last, but seem to be wearing OK, the grip has made ABS redundant. Come winter I fit Nokian WRD3 on steel rims, they are great on snow and ice ( and mud ).

I've had my Storms on a few thousand miles now and I'm really impressed with them too. 13500 miles on the rear is amazing, but I have got to ask, how long does a front last?

not as long as the rear but I still got about 10500 miles. My bike was due its MOT and since I'd almost reached the tyre wear bars I decided to change it, I suspect it would have lasted another 1500 miles.

As soon as I saw them I thought the ammount of tread on the front looked a little mean compared to the rear, but still, if I could get over 10000 out of the front I would be more than pleased!

I am still a fan of Michelin PR5s, but I've yet to test mileage as I'm on my third rear in 2 years due to punctures.
Essex thing of discarding sharp items from cars and vans on the road.
I'd love to wear out a tyre! The front has lasted over 12,000 miles however!

From my experience of Michelin tyres on cars they tend to sacrifice grip for long wear, I had Michelin on cars for many years, mainly because i was doing over 25,000 miles a year, but fitting Avon ZV7 has all but made the ABS redundant and where pulling away normally at some junctions could provoke wheelspin on Michelin, not so with Avons.

Unless Michelin use a different 'magic' rubber compound in bike tyres to get the holy grail of both amazing grip and make tyres last longer ( then why not use it on car tyres ) after my experience with their car tyres I would not fit them to a bike ( ducks ).

The bike passed its MOT today with advisory i.e Worn rear tyre. I knew it was squaring off but it is almost down to the wear indicators. It is a Continental roadattack 3 put on the bike 3 years ago and has only done 4,500 miles on mostly main and town roads. The front is a continental too and was on the bike when I bought it 12,000 miles ago and doesn't need changing. I won't be putting another Continental on the bike and am soliciting suggestions. Cost is not a big issue as long as it is not over £100.

I don't hoon the bike so the tyre needn't be overly sporty.
