Default TomTom Rider

Avoid this like the plague.

See these posts.....

Have just called TomTom to find out what they are going to do about their device falling from their cradle and being lost.

Apparently if I had been able to find it, they would repair/replace it, but because I don't have it they seem reluctant to do anything.

Best the guy on the phone could do was to give me their complaints departments snail-mail address in Amsterdam.

So I have started a claim on my home contents insurance which is going to cost me for a £60 excess, plus higher premiums.......

TomTom MAY still come through, but in the mean-time avoid the Rider.

David

Thanks to TSM for the links above to the stories.

To be honest...you would have to be a bit crazy to buy the 1st generation of gps devices for bikes. They will always have design flaws that will get smoothed out when the new replacements come along.

That's a bit harsh!

David - do you think you had it securely attached at the time? or maybe not quite properly seated?
Sounds like the additional strap will help - (admittedly not help you )
Good luck - pretty shocking if they won't do anything.

I know, bit harsh but was told it by a chap who works for a company and deals with all pda/gps devices and it's quite true really.

I'll hold off for a couple of years.

Not really. Early adopters pay more and get all of the teething problems too. It generally pays to wait until the price comes down and reliability goes up.

Yes I know, but we've got to get someone to be the early adopters - can't scare them all off or nothing would be developed :P

If it falls out of the cradle during it's intended use, surely it's not "fit for purpose"?

Defiately - I have had one occasion when it wasn't quite right that taught me the correct fastening.

It had also done over 5Km since I set off till it was lost. which had included some 90 degree junction turns and the like - ie the bike moving around.

So I would argue it was seated properly

Has your map never fallen off, then?

Bet you still can't run an mp3 player through it, though.
