Cake!
I have been having a bit of fun lately making cakes for a friends daughter for her birthday and decided I would have go at making a car cake...the same car my dad had many years ago, until my mum made him sell it
It is his birthday on Wednesday, but him and mum came over for a birthday treat today, so yesterday I had the idea to make his car cake and he LOVED it. I will be suitably impressed by anyone that knows what car it is Have been loving it and more than happy to make custom cakes to order. Normally, the car would be iced twice to get a smoother finish, but had to make it very small as all I could get yesterday was a small square cake board, so I couldn't make it big enough to double ice or marzipan and ice. Still quite happy with it though for 5.5 hours work. The horses head took me 6 hours and the rose cupcakes take about 40 seconds per cake to ice So, come on...give me some whacky ideas for my next one... I have absolutely loved every second of doing these, which is quite something for me as I am not really a baker Last edited by gruntygiggles; 27-08-12 at 09:18 PM. |

Re: Cake!
Thanks to you and Helen then. I have half covered a Christmas cake with royal icing before, but the horse cake was my first ever carved fondant cake and the car my second. I have a few orders off the family I did the horse for, but my brain is full of ideas
The roses are actually really easy, but they look impressive Oh and no...not a Healey!!! |

Re: Cake!
Changed my mind....not giving a clue...lol
I will however say that it is a bit longer in the bonnet in real life than the cake version and also, I have not put a windscreen on this. Last edited by gruntygiggles; 27-08-12 at 09:31 PM. |

Re: Cake!
They are fab love the rose cupcakes.
The only cake I've ever made like that was a big mac cake for my sister. Was quite good as I was only a teenager. |

Frog-eye sprite?
They are good. My wife and I have made it tradition to make birthday cakes for our two little'uns. This is our last effort for Emily's 3rd birthday party |

Re: Cake!
Frog eyed sprite. My mate's mum had one when we were kids. All three of us used to squeeze into into now and again with the top down on sunny days and she'd take us to the outdoor swimming pool at Faversham.
