Default Bike trailer, can someone look at this for me

Please don't pip me, but as I know nothing its worth the risk I guess.

Can someone WHO KNOWS about bike trailers look here and tell me what they think

http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132323

I would be looking to tow a light bike with my 1.4 car (bit gutless but should be ok)

I used to tow a fully loaded 8' box trailer with my old 1.3 Suzuki Jimny 4x4 - Ok, it wouldn't break any speed limits, except maybe going downhill, but it managed Ok.

I've actually got a small Erde trailer and have been thinking about converting it to take bikes. The prop plate is useful if you're going to be loading/unloading on your own - gives you somewhere to stand that is next to, and on the same level as, your bike. But if it's a lightweight dirt bike you'll probably be OK without.
Chances are you can even remove the centre rail/hoop and bolt a plate in yourself - that is if you don't want to take more than two bikes.
(Though if you do that and then only take one bike it *may* cause problems towing due to the uneven weight distribution - not sure there.)

Price - dunno really. It was a while ago when I was looking into this - but seems OKish if it's in good nick. As I say - better to have room for three bikes and be able to customise it than be fixed with only one I s'pose.

Erde parts n stuff are easily sourced through Halfords by the way.

I think the question in the linked thread is pertinent. What car is it that you will be towing with as that will limit the total weight you can tow (based on weight of the towcar). The GS is quite heavy and the trailer is only rated to 450KG. Trailer payload is 340KG odd so could just take two SV's - but only one GS plus some kit?

The trailer looks well sound, the glav is clean and has obviously been kept under cover.

Your 1.4 should tow it without too much hassle, but brakes would need to be tip top condition.

Seems like a good deal Rich. My Daxara trailer is just the simple box, cost about £200. Have you already got a tow hook, if not you'll need to budget about £150 for that.

Seems a decent price, I can get the props added. I think I will get it as hiring a van will be 100 a pop. Should move it on without much loss if doesnt work out. My max tow weight is 800kg. I would only be using it for trail bike, unlikely for GS and if so only that.

But was probably not entirely legal What is the gross train weight (or whatever current terminology is) for a Jimny? Towing weight limits can be a nightmare but we need to be well up on them around here, as police like to stop 'overloaded' agricultural trailers etc.

for that trailer your max tow weight is 450KG.

The absolute max tow weight for an UNBRAKED trailer is 750KG.

The max unbraked weight for your car is no more than 50% of the car's gross weight.

Yeah, it was a braked trailer though, which helped... alot. But luckily it was only for a couple of runs to Wigan - I traded up to a hulking great Diahatsu soon after (for other reasons that the towing though).
