Why don't motorbikes have fog lights?
Any particular reason?

Why don't motorbikes have fog lights?
Front I'd say no suitable place to put them, rear again no suitable place to put them.
Fronts are meant to cast low light across the road and not cause reflection in the water particles so would need to be mounted on the forks. Rear would need to be mounted a suitable distance from rear lights to differentiate from brake lights so you would need to have an epic rear mudguard that puts the standard pointy one to shame. Just a thought.

Not required by law. Plus how often is it foggy? |

Re: Why don't motorbikes have fog lights?
Because the vast majority of motorcyclists (there are obviously the odd exception) look plenty cool enough without the need to drive around with extra lights on.
Fog lights are supposed to only be used in conditions of seriously reduced visibility, which although not defined is generally held to be when it is less that 100m. So basically if you can see far enough to be driving at more than 40mph you shouldn't have your fog lights on! ps: and I know 100m is approximately the stopping distance from 70mph, but that's assuming you make the instant decision to go for the brakes. It takes a fair bit of time for a driver to actually realize that what he is looking at isn't actually moving.....which is why we end up with countless pileups every time it gets a little misty! |
