Managed to cadge another works jolly for 5 days
![]() This has got to be the worst place in the world to drive, makes london look like a drive in the country side. Landed at Istanbul apparently it has a population of 50,000,000 and every one of the buggers seems to be on the road, and as for a highway code...well you got more chance of seeing rocking hore poo! A simple rule of thumb: If the road has 2 carriage ways marked it means you can get 4 lanes of traffic, and if its a 3 lane carriage way then you get at least 7 lanes of traffic in it. Mirrors on cars are their for one thing and one thing only, to gauge a gap in the traffic. The majority of drivers drive with one hand constantly on the horn and the other flashing their lights and gesticulating with there hands. The hard shoulder is used for a daring undertaking moves thats if there isn't an on coming tractor coming up the wrong way. Motorbikes are in the bottom of the food chain here, no regard for them what so ever, i have seen them use the drainage ditches alongside the hard shoulder as they feel it's a safe haven for them ![]() So after Isanbul it was gentle 2 hour ferry trip across the sea of marmara and a further 90 minute car journey to Bursa...Turkeys automotive centre. Some cracking roads and scenery coming through the gorges and mountain ranges...only thing that spoiled it was the other idiots on the road ![]() ![]() I'd rather go pillion with beenz than drive here again ![]() Right, off for a turkish bath, sauna and a meeting with a big hairy turkish fella for a massage ![]() Be safe peeps ![]() |

I've hired a few cars in Turkey and its exactly like you describe. They even overtake on hairpin bends, although they really use their horns in a polite manner, as in "hello I here" and "you can go now" type of thing, not the "I'm angry and you've made me 3 seconds late" kinda London way
