My brother in laws, father in law - so no relation to mine I might add.
Has been collecting tax discs for ever - I believe since he first got one. His collection must be worth a packet - to some equally sad individual - going by those prices. He has thousands of them. WTF.. |

Re: Apparently collecting old tax discs is a thing
If you search by completed listings, the actual selling prices are much lower (except on discs from the 20s), but still - who would pay even £10 for one?

Re: Apparently collecting old tax discs is a thing
Memorabilia is a big market and people like collecting things, be it matchboxes, spoons, steam train nameplates or, apparently, tax discs. Companies are set up to cater for some and become successful off the back of it - like Stanley Gibbons. Takes all sorts.

Re: Apparently collecting old tax discs is a thing
Some people like to decorate their car in the correct period piece, i.e. if you have a 60's motor and rent it out to TV studios and the like then the authenticity makes things more believable, so there is a market out there, although not for £1200 there isn't!!!

Thanks, thanks a lot, I'm now getting emails from EBay about tax discs.
