Windows 11
Windows 11 is coming this year!
As someone on reddit pointed out: Windows XP - good Windows Vista - bad Windows 7 - good Windows 8 - bad Windows 10 - good Windows 11 - ? Is that a pattern?

Re: Windows 11
Windows Me (before XP) was bad, so looking good. I can't remember about 95 and 98, I just about remember Windows 2 ... but it was pretty pointless at the time.
I thought Microsoft said that they weren't going to release 11, just stick with 10 ... perhaps it's because macOS has moved from X to 11 recently, they thought they had to keep up - Windows 11 apparently includes a mac-style dock, too? |

Re: Windows 11
I was running Win98 on the kid's pc in 2002 ish. I remember it being good (by the day's standards) and it was quick to reload it from scratch. Win95 was a leap from Win3.1 but I seem to remember it crashing when Bill Gates was demonstrating how easy plugging in a peripheral could be (like a Mac), it was never stable.
My old Toshiba Satellite, currently running Win10, does not have a good enough CPU (i3-2310M) for Win11 according to Microsoft, nor does it have enough memory although I could add more.

Re: Windows 11
they will be doing it so you cant use older apps like office or you must buy things from an app store. i use office xp on my win10 and it runs just fine. i have turned off auto updates so i'm good for the foreseeable future
i have never had a problems with any of the windows iterations. my favourite was telly tubby land UI and i hate win10 native which is why i use 'classic shell'. Last edited by Bibio; 26-06-21 at 11:29 AM. |

Re: Windows 11
Has anyone upgraded to Windows 11 yet? My computer is giving it as an option and wondered if its worth doing or not?

Re: Windows 11
I normally run the insider developer track of the latest MS OS Builds on one of my spare boxes just to see how my server reacts to the new builds but as my newest spare is a 4th gen i7 I just couldn't be bothered jumping thru hoops to get it to install (Nowt wrong with my spare box, it runs 4k perfectly fine with a 8 year old GPU I had lying in the spares box).
So No, not tried Win 11 yet and as Win 10 has another 5 years of support in it, i really don't think I will be for some time to come (and to be honest, I may well just switch over to Linux then anyway, they are taking away my deadnet at work so I'll be out of a 'Admin as additional duties' role so no need to stay to current any more) |

Re: Windows 11
W10 is being fully supported till 2025 so there's no rush.
My HP pc with a core i5-6500 won't run W11 because the processor isn't supported. The machine is only 4 years old. I suspect anything over 3 or 4 years old is going to struggle. Hmmm, a chance to sell loads more new computers maybe? The very attitude we should be moving away from ffs. Last edited by garynortheast; 01-11-21 at 09:20 AM. |

Re: Windows 11
BTW bar the exception of WinMe auto back up filling HDD's there has never been a bad windows operating system. its not Microsoft's fault that there are idiots in front of their operating systems and hardware companies that cant get their drivers done properly.
every single MS OS i have used has been rock solid after it has been fettled. i also only want an OS, no bells or whistles and this is why i'm considering moving over to Linux. what happened to lindows? |
