Greater Manchester is starting it's own as well.

Toll on the ring road didn't work, now it's emissions for the whole borough starting with commercial vehicles and camper vans.

The article says data collected between 2016 and 2020.

The ULEZ prohibits higher polluting vehicles from entering the area, the congestion charge is different.

they may prohibit but how do they stop them from entering?

it just seems like London and other large populous cities have introduced a stealth tax on their citizens all in the name of pollution/congestion.

again the motorist is paying for things.

You are right. The latest extension of the London ULEZ is just more of the same-----greenwashing for political and financial gain for the ruling elite. The original "congestion" charge in London didnt reduce congestion but made loads of money and the ULEZ has not reduced pollution but is costing poorer Londoners money as they have to get rid of their older cars. They even include motorcycles in this nonsense when,by their own statistics, motorcycles are responsible for an unmeasurably small amount of pollution. I took part in their sham "consultation" on this several years ago now and I asked why motorcycles were to be included. I got some waffle about every road user had to be included in the campaign in order to make us all part of the effort or some such crap.

ULEZ. Load of tosh. Go into Central London and see how many Black Cabs you see which are 20+ years old spewing Black smoke out the back.

If they were really concerned about air pollution the Taxi network needs to be updated/mandated to cars not over X years old/be a Euro compliant 4/5/6 level.

Yes, leave your car at home and instead, use the overpriced and overcrowded public transport system which isn't fit for purpose.

Think about the congestion charge from the mayor's perspective. He has two possible outcomes...

a) Traffic levels are reduced - "See what a good boy am I"

b) Traffic levels are not reduced and he gets a few million quid a year to spend on public transport - "See what a good boy am I"

Easy decision for him.
