Default Moment of sheer biking heaven.

Was on my way to work today and there was hardly any traffic. I live in Farnborough and work in Uxbridge so my journey consists mostly of M3, M25 and then M40 and is usually quite boring yet fraught with cage drivers that wish to kill me. Today however was different. The sun was out and not a single cloud in the sky. As I mounted my venerable steed It just felt good to be a biker on a day as fine as today, so off I rode into the sun. Had a pretty uneventful journey until I got to close to the M40 slip road (joins the M25 to the M40 and is a very long sweeping left hand bend) when I notice this rather plush but smart looking AMG Mercedes estate. Let me tell you this thing sounded awesome. Must have been a V8. He gave me a curt nod as he undertook me as if to say "let's race". Now usually I would be against such activities at that time but there literally was very little traffic (although I'll bet someone gives me the usualy telling off). So we are approaching the left hand bend and the Merc is ahead by a good 10 car lenghts (this thing was rapid!) he moves out into the second lane of the slip road and I take the inside line. His brake lights come on as he enters the bend........I lean off the bike as much as I dare and down goes the slider, sparks flying everywhere (not that I could see it myself). Then I shoot past the merc on the inside lane and everything seems to go in slo motion. I glance over to the driver who is just staring in awe (or dissaprovement) at my antics and I leave him in a hail of sparks and smug laughter. As I come out of the bend he catches up and gives me a huge grin and the thumbs up and shoots off once more. Wow!! Made me go all goose bumpy and reminded me of how much fun bikes can be and that not all Merc drivers are ****s.

Whooaah, how cool is that, I'd never expect that from a Merc driver!

I've only been riding a bike for a fortnight and I do that exact same bend each morning and I sh*t myself every time. Would you care to give away the speed you can take it at so I have something to aim for?

I'll save myself the embarassment of admitting to the speed I can do it at (as a clue it's over 30mph slower than I do it in the car).

Great story!! A line to remember:

'I glance over to the driver who is just staring in awe (or dissaprovement) at my antics and I leave him in a hail of sparks and smug laughter.'

To get your kneedown on the bend I mention you would have to be going at least 70mph. But theoretically 85ish should be possible. Theoritically. Ahem. If you lean off the bike so that your tyre contact patch is greater, you can increase your cornering speed. Not that I condone such silly speeds.
