Does the FI light come up as soon as you turn on the ignition or only when you try a start? And the procedure youre using for code testing is definitely: ignition off, put dealer mode wire into connector block, turn ignition on, try start and look for code?
The only suggestion Ive got isnt nice but could the ECU be knackered? You can either try to swop it with a very good friend's unit or go to your dealer.......

Yes the FI light comes on when I turn the ignition on & the procedure is exactly as you said. I was beginning to come to the same conclusion as you about the ECU, i will see if i can pick up a cheap one on Ebay as a last resort before sending it to the dealer.
Thanks

just to recap what you have:
water temperature reading has gone and in its place 'FI' letters indicated continuously,
to the left of the speed reading 'FI' letters indicated and blinks,
red oil pressure/FI light on and blinks.

FI comes on solid with the ignition on, no blinking, FI light goes when I hit the starter button

And do you get the two lots of 'FI' letters or not? If not then its not indicating an FI fault but oil pressure and is correctly going out when the motor turns over and pressure builds up.....

Only 1 FI not 2 so does that mean that I have been "barking up the wrong tree"

so where are the letters 'FI' showing, below the speed reading where engine temperature normally shows or to the left of it?

Unfortunately everybody calls the red warning light the FI light but it can also indicate a high coolant temperature and low oil pressure.....
