High Mileage, is it a problem
I am lookihg to buy my first bike, there is an SV650 on a Y plate in my local dealer at a good price. It has full service history some nice extras and looks to be in really good condition, the only worry I have is that is has done just over 50,000 miles. Do you think this is a problem? should I stay clear?

If it's got service history, and is straight then no.
Just don't pay the earth...has to be fairly cheap to catch my eye. U get wot u pay 4. |

Its not a problem as long as the price is right.... I would expect it to be around £1000-ish tops... IIRC Fizzwheel on here was offered £800 as a trade in for his 35,000 miler....

Not enginewise, if it's been cared for. But there'll be general wear and tear- the rear shock will be pretty much worn out if it's original, and if the forks haven't been services they'll want it. I imagine the swingarm bearings, if they're original, will be about 25,000 miles past their best too, and that's not the cheapest of jobs to sort if it needs it...
But if the price is right, don't be put off by the miles.

Personally, I wouldn't like a bike with that mileage on it.
I would say to have a look at the For Sale section here, there are a lot of good looking bikes going at very reasonable prices. |

What's the price? I'm sure peeps here would be able to advise on how good it is.
SVs do ok as far as I know. |

They want £1400. Considering your comments I think I will keep shopping. Thanks for your advice guys.

If its had a fully service history then I wouldn't see it as a problem.
If anything the engines been looked after and used which is better then one thats never been used, and really old oil/fluids in it. Have they mentiond whats been done, like relaced bearings and stuff? After all if its been service properly then all these things should have been done. So wheel/head bearing, brake lines, fork oil. |

£1400? Eek...Even if it's ok I would look elsewhere...
Can do better. Good to know the SV can do 50,000 miles though. 12 years trouble free biking for me. |
