Default Pointy rear shock upgrade info help.

Afternoon people.

Iv looked through the forum and I think I'm starting to confuse maself (dosnt take much) am I right in believing that fitting a 97-00 GSXR REAR SHOCK will stiffen up the ride and raise the hight a bit? I'm 6ft2 and 14st if this helps.

Thanks in advance.

There are different shock recommendations for different years of SV.

The 2nd Tab of this google sheet is a useful place to start:

try moving the slider bar at the bottom and you will see what is required to do to the battery tray.

Just about every shock there can be shoe-horned in. What you want to make sure is that you pick one of the correct length and spring rate for your needs.

Be careful of designations such as "2008- " as sometimes these are a little out of date and a new model has turned up, I acquired a 2010 ZX6R shock for instance that I thought would be a good match and turned out to be a lot stiffer than anticipated.

Some shocks need a new bottom shock nut & bolt as they are not threaded like the stock SV shock, these are specific parts and you should use the correct one for the purpose not just any old bolt. Some shocks also need some modification of a battery box or similar using a knife to make room for the remote reservoir which isn't present on the stock shock.

The simplest swap is a replacement from Ohlins / Nitorn / Penske or similar, as there's no modification and you know it's sprung and damped correctly. However, there can be a big difference in cost there.

Sorry about all the questions i just want to make sure im understanding/learning whilst i tinker. :S

your hight has nothing to do with it. http://old.racetech.com/evalving/menu/searchstreet.asp then look up gsxr750 k4-5 (as its around the same weight) and put the numbers in
