Default GSXR 600 K4 shock onto an SV650S K3

Excuse what is probably a repetative question but how easy is it to fit the GSXR shock?

Is it a straight swap or is a little modification required?

And is it actually worth doing?

Slight modification is required - the battery box will need cutting back, but not by too much. You'll also need a new nut and bolt for attaching the bottom of the shock to the dogbones.

I thought it was an excellent mod, worthwhile doing. Look into sorting the front out first however, if you've not already done so.

I think the 600 shock is a little too soft to make it worth it. It's got about the same spring rate as the SV shock, though it has more adjustment and is rebuildable.
I have a feeling it's a different length as well, though can't remember by how much and which direction.

I think it might be 0.5mm shorter, but I'm not sure.

I'd be surprised if the spring rate is softer, at least by any significant amount anyway, given that it's designed for a similar bike.

A shock with damping that actually works will make up for this anyway.

It's about the same rate as the SV, though as you say, it has some decent damping. For somebody either my or Banjo's weight, a harder spring rate may be a little more necessary than for you.

So do you reckon I would be better going for a GSXR1000 shock instead. One of the reasons for wanting to uprate the shock is due to me carrying a pillion quite a bit.
